Distributed Classification Systems (Folksonomies)

Folksonomies are collaboratively generated, open-ended labeling systems that enable Internet users to categorize content using familiar, accessible, and shared vocabulary. Also known as tagging, these are often used on to label existing content, such as web sites, literature, pictures and blog entries.

Tag cloud: a visual depiction of content tags used on a website. Frequently used tags are emphasized, often with a larger font.
